Headguard by Hedkayse

World Rugby approved

Protect yourself on the rugby pitch with the new generation of headguards for rugby union.

The Hedkayse headguard provides the most comprehensive protection for linear impacts to the head on the market today. Powered by Enkayse™ technology, the same technology to power reusable crash helmets for cylcing, ensures advanced impact absorption to help minimize chances of concussion from linear impact forces.

Importantly Hedkayse headguard has been tested at body temperature with no drop in performance.  Most scrum caps are tested at ambient temperatures, but become less protective as the pads heat up.  You do not have to worry about this with the R5.  You cannot guarantee concussion prevention, but this unit can help reduce the likelihood better than any product available today.

Despite its robust protection, the R5 remains comfortable and maintains situational awareness through sound vents.  It utilizes antimicrobial fabric to keep smell at bay, but is also machine washable to allow for easy maintenance.

Features:

  • Highest reduction of linear impact forces of any headguard tested via proprietary Enkayse™ technology
  • Stays just as protective even when warmed to body temperature
  • Same slimline fit as regular headguards
  • Sound vents ensure zero reduction in situational awareness
  • Antimicrobial fabric
  • Machine washable
  • World Rugby approved for match play and training
  • Member of British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF)

Care:

  • Machine washable - Easy clean antimicrobial fabric

Pricey, but worth it

"Got one of these for my daughter a year and a half ago. She was a somewhat undersized, but very aggressive fall back. She would often end up on the bottom of the tackle when bringing down props and had gotten a few concussions. We got this to try and help reduce that risk and it may be just coincidental, but she did not have any problems with concussions her senior year in high school when she was wearing this. Both union and 7s season. Really seems to reduce the linear impact as described."

"My son absolutely loves his Hedkayse R5 Headguard! He never wanted to wear a scrum cap before, but this one changed his mind. It fits comfortably, stays in place, and we genuinely feel like it offers extra protection. He took a kick to the head during a match and wasn’t phased at all — a true testament to its durability and design. Highly recommend for any rugby player!"

Decent product, poor service.

"As far as the scrum cap itself, it runs a little large and the chinstrap is mildly uncomfortable. Other than that, it is lightweight, relatively comfortable, and seems to provide protection. On the other hand, I felt that the service was rather poor. I paid for expedited shipping, and when the package arrived, it looked like it had been cut in half then hastily repackaged by a five year old. The product inside looked like it had been squashed in transit, and there were loose threads, some faint stains, and puckering seams around it. Obviously these have no impact on its function, but they made the headguard seem cheaply made, which was disappointing at this price point. Overall it seems like a good product, although I can't compare it to other scrum caps nor speak to the quality of the protection it provides, as it is the first one I have owned and I have yet to see rigorous independent research verifying the claims about concussion prevention. I was however, disappointed to pay nearly 200 dollars to receive something that looked like it had been either pre-owned or stepped on."

Too big

"The helmet does not fit well and not enough variety of sizes"
