STADE DE BORDEAUX, BORDEAUX

How to get there:

Bordeaux Merignac airport is slightly out of town but bus access to the centre on the

number 1 bus is fantastic. In town, it’s all about the tram, three tram lines cover the entirety

of the beautiful town, and the C tram takes you to within a measly 300m of the modern

Stade de Bordeaux. If you happen to be travelling down from Paris there is a new high speed

train line that gets you to Bordeaux in just over two hours.

Where the rugby’s happening:

The Stade de Bordeaux was officially unveiled in 2015 for the Euro 2016 football

tournament and can seat 42 000 in this state of the art but unusual piece of architecture.

Bordeaux is very much a rugby city, and you can be sure that the locals will be up for RWC

2023.

Where to get some beers:

If you’re looking for something quintessentially French, look no further than Chez Fred, just

400m from the beautiful Place de la Bourse you can enjoy some lovely time on their

“terrasse”. HMS Victory in the Victoire area is more of an Anglo-Saxon pub but is also very

nice and serves all sorts of beers.

What to visit whilst I’m there:

Bordeaux is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the whole of France and you will

not be disappointed. Just a stroll in the Chartrons area around the Garonne River is a lovely

experience and just a few tram stops away from there is the Cité du Vin (City of wine). This

€81M complex is nicknamed the Guggenheim of wine and provides with a great tour of the

history of wine but also some well-earned tasting.
