| Leinster Club Information
Historically and currently one of the elite club teams in Ireland, Leinster was formed in 1875. Once an amateur team that won 19 Irish Inter-Provincial Championships, Leinster became one of four professional teams when the Irish Rugby Football Union was formed, along with Ulster, Munster, and Connacht.
Leinster reached the inaugural Heineken Cup semifinals in 1995-96 and the quarterfinals in 2001-02.
When the Celtic League was formed in 2001-02, Leinster won the Championship. In 2002-03, they swept pool play (only the third time in history that its happened) before bowing out to France’s Perpignan in the semifinals. A year later, Leinster swept pool play again, and were among the favorites to win the Championship, but once again, Leinster lost to the Leicester Tigers in the quarterfinals.
Leinster’s recent success has given hope to the Leinster province, but tournament disappointments have left Leinster hungry for another title.
