- This is a quality, reproduction and not an antique, hence the reasonable price. It is printed on top quality premium paper. The original was drawn for the Central London Recruiting Depot in 1915. This print struck a cord with us not because of its British flavor, but more because of the direct reference to the loyalty and patriotism of the Rugby Union player.
- The publicity office was clearly using the status of the Rugby player as a draw to other inferior sporting types of the day! The classic line "This is not the time to play games" (Lord Roberts) should remind us of the sacrifice being made by our team mates today and the many millions who have made the sacrifice in the past.
- It is amazing to consider that "Every player who represented England in Rugby international matches last year has joined the colours." – In fact, an incredible 125 Rugby internationals died fighting for the allies in World War I. 30 from Scotland, 26 England, 23 France, 12 New Zealand. 11 Wales 9 Australia, 9 Ireland, and 4 South Africa internationals gave their lives. England Captain Ronnie Poulton-Palmer, capped 17 times, was killed at Ploegsteert Wood on 5th May, 1915.
- We all know that there is something special about the rugby community. Sometimes it is difficult to explain or analyze, but it exists today just as it existed in 1915 and our sport continues to be better for it.
