Cardiff Blues currently play their home games at the Cardiff Arms Park. Once Rugby Union was forced to go professional in 1995, the old order changed overnight and by 2002 the Welsh Rugby Union, largely due to the building of the Millennium Stadium, was bankrupt, forcing a reorganisation of domestic rugby in the Principality. There had been nine top flight professional rugby clubs: Bridgend RFC; Caerphilly RFC; Cardiff RFC; Ebbw Vale RFC; Llanelli RFC; Neath RFC; Newport RFC; Pontypridd RFC; Swansea RFC. It was decided that this number would have to be reduced to five.
Cardiff RFC was allowed to form a side without amalgamating with any of the other 8 clubs and was the first to launch as a new entity. The official Cardiff Blues launch event took place at the Cardiff Hilton on 6 June 2003. They have since had a number of rough years, but have seen a real upturn in these latest seasons thanks to an influx of talented players and coaches, and the future looks bright for the Blues.
